Pushing creative boundaries of dance, health, beauty & ourselves.
I created Zoanee because I couldn’t find a dance style that made me feel joyous, powerful, sensual and free all at once. I wanted a challenge and I wanted to sweat! Zoanee was my natural way of expressing these emotions. What began as a dance style that broke the industry rules, flourished into a way of life.
I want to bring back the joy of learning to dance and challenging ourselves. Most of all, I want to grow our community in order to support one another in our lifestyle optimization journey! Because every aspect of our lives affects our entire well being.
Growing up I was always looking for a dance format that captured this type of raw, free & confident energy, but also spoke to the way my body naturally moved. I always found myself leaving most dance classes bored, uninspired and definitely not sweaty enough for my liking. That’s when I knew that if this thing was not out there in the universe, I just had to create it myself.
I created Zoanee so that it can be modified to the most basic steps and layered to very complex combinations. I’m a hard-worker and learner at heart, so for me, it’s really important that a dance format doesn’t have an ending. It’s always evolving and growing. There is methodology behind Zoanee that has been 10 years in the making. I remember dancing with sneakers and trying to conform to industry standards by using traditional music. Until I realized that this is not the standard and more importantly, that I didn’t want it to be the standard. I started letting go of all these “rules” and “restrictions” that were clogging up my creativity and started dancing my style to catchy pop music and pushing creative boundaries.
This program is from the heart, it’s not filled with tricks or gimmicks. It just makes you feel good. You become a more confident and free person, while getting stronger and more flexible. It’s a dance style that turned into a lifestyle. It makes you feel free, yet powerful. It’s the free spirit that inspires the warm, judgment-free camaraderie that is the Zoanee standard.
The Zoanee dance style is a method and workout program created by Yael Becker. A modern twist on Belly Dance, Zoanee sets energetic moves and toning isolations to Pop music. Zoanee moves can be improvised, choreographed or taught as a sequential follow-along program.
We recommend wearing comfortable workout pants, such as leggings, and shirt or sports bra. You do not have to show your belly if you don’t want to, but seeing the way your belly moves can help with the learning process.
We suggest our participants remain barefoot in order to get the appropriate traction for the Zoanee moves and avoid strain on the knees and ankles. If you prefer not to be barefoot, ballet slippers or grip socks are a good alternative. If you have a medical condition, talk to your doctor beforehand.
Nope! Like any dance style, there is a learning curve with Zoanee. You can learn the moves through tutorials, combination routines, or follow along choreography videos. Enjoy the journey of learning, keep practicing and remember that nothing great gets accomplished overnight!
